So I began my math placement for my junior year of student teaching last Tuesday. I am interning in a first grade class, and this is my first time working with students so young. I have worked with second and fifth grade previously.

First graders are clearly not censored and prior to this placement I think I worked with a lot of children who have plus sized parents lol. They hugged me for days and never ever commented about my weight.

My question is what do you do when you hear a student making comments about your weight?

As I was walking in on day one, I heard one little girl say, "wow she's big," and then her friends giggled. Now that didn't bother me, I am aware that I am fat, haha. I am 5'9, so I am pretty tall compared to a first grader! I imediately walked over to the ringleader's friends and began interacting with them asking them about their projects, and if they were excited for the upcoming snow storm. It was groundhog day so I even got a little discussion going on about the groundhog.

I went to the little girl who made the comment as I made my rounds and complimented her disney princess outfit-she smiled. I guess I handled the situation well but I am concerned about what I should do or say if I am ever in a situation where a student says a comment about my weight out load, or disrupts the class.

Do you all think I handled the situation well? What would you have done differently?
Got to love the little angels regardless haha.
