I wanted to discuss where you think we will be going in the next ten years as fat people.
I was sitting in a room yesterday at the birthday party of my very good friend who happens to be a BHM. It struck me that once again I was the largest person in the room and that really wasn't an issue because most of the people there were my adopted family and good friends. But it also got me to thinking that many of them would never fully understand my life as a fat woman because they have never been big.
Over the years I had my own group locally for size acceptance, was Canadian area Facilitator for NAAFA, taught aerobics for large size ladies, have done size positive art and been a real mouthpiece when I see fat people being treated as less than others. I just can't help but wonder when we see the "War on Obesity", the nasty portrayals in the media of fat people, and even hearing some of the comments that have come out of friends and families mouths if we are REALLY making any real progress out there.
I guess I can say that for myself all of these things were powerful for me and help me become a more "well rounded person". I just wonder if there is enough of an impact being made to help youth coming up to accept themselves. What is your take?
Ruth
