Well, on a pretty-much party-line vote, the House Republicans finally passed the farm bill. However, in order to get sufficient support from their caucus, they cut funding for food stamps (SNAP).

Completely.

You read that right. The didn't just reduce the funding, they eliminated it from the bill entirely. That was what it took to get almost all of the Republican Representatives on board (all but 18 out of 234).

With that done, they can get on with the important issues:
"With three weeks remaining before the month-long August recess, House GOP leaders were eager to quickly pass a farm bill and begin talks with the Senate so they can spend the remainder of July voting on bills to repeal the health-care reform law and address recent Obama administration scandals."

Fortunately, this will be fixed when the bill is reconciled with the Senate version, or it will face a Presidential veto and they'll have to start over. And perhaps they'll do a separate bill for SNAP. Maybe. If they're not too busy trying to repeal Obamacare, again...

But really, this is a pretty clear statement of where the House GOP stands: Big Ag subsidies can get overwhelming Republican support, and so can eliminating food support to the needy.
