A vice-principal of a public school in NYC recently died from the swine flu. Until now, his death was classified by the press as a result of swine flu exacerbated by "preexisting conditions," likely respiratory issues. His widow, however, has stated that he was on medication for high blood pressure/a heart issue, but was otherwise healthy and had no respiratory issues to speak of. I just saw a report on Fox (of course) including their "medical expert" that the key secondary or preexisting factor was him being obese, i.e. that the obese are more likely to be susceptible to death from secondary pneumonia brought on by the flu. So yes, the vice principal did have long term pre-existing medical conditions that he was taking medication for, but now his death is being listed under the rubric of obesity.

Watch out, fatties! The swine flu is coming for you.
