Has anyone heard of this before?

"GEOCACHING is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online."
So basically people hide containers with a scroll and random stuff in them and plant them in places outdoors (usually memorial sites, on trails, statues, other landmarks, etc). You look up your area on the site and it will tell you a general location where the caches are located and sometimes with hints, and you are supposed to go out and find them (many people use their gps). When you find them, you sign the scroll, and sometimes you can keep stuff or you can choose to swap stuff or add stuff. The closest one we found last night was a block away from our house.
My boyfriend found out about it the other day and discovered that it's pretty popular all over the world. We had no idea that anything like this existed, it's pretty cool.
I was just curious as to who all else knew about this kind of thing. My bf is all into it now, he won't stop talking about it.
