Ray Bradbury was as much a mentor to me in my youth as were my teachers, parents or friends. Scientific American, in the on-line edition, published this obituary:

Mars Loses One of Its Most Famous Citizens–Ray Bradbury, 1920-2012
By Michael J. Battaglia | June 6, 2012

While this summarizes Bradbury's life and contributions as an author far better than I could, I did express my own appreciation in Dimensions' Favorite Poems thread a while back. I give you this:

"And the moon be still as bright"

Ray Bradbury introduced me to the poem "We'll go no more a'roving" by George Gordon (Lord Byron), quoted in the above post. I concluded that post with these words:

"And someday, in the far future I hope, when the ashes of Ho Ho and Mrs Ho Ho rest in repose beneath their tree, perhaps we will have that poem posted nearby. We will still be under that moon, but no longer roving.

We will be home."

Ray Bradbury, too, is now home, perhaps on a Mars which existed only in his imagination - one with two moons to illuminate all the scenes from his stories - stories which still linger in my own mind as well.

Rest in peace, Ray Bradbury, Rest in peace
